Members-only pre-sale: Friday, October 23, 2009; 4p.m. - 6p.m.

This sale offers a variety of plants, pots and other gardening objects from the Garden's own nursery, local nurseries, garden centers and plant societies.  Expert Garden grounds crew and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and help you choose the perfect plants.  Click here for more details!

Rhythm and Blooms - Concert and Shrimp Boil:

Thursday, November 12, 2009: Gates open at 6:30p.m. and Concert starts at 8p.m.

Join Cape Fear Botanical Garden at Campbellton Landing for a night of food, fun and music at the first annual Rhythm and Blooms concert and shrimp boil!  This year's event will feature Charleston, S.C. band, the Blue Dogs, whose music is a unique blend of country, roots, bluegrass, and Americana sounds.  Proceeds will benefit the Garden.  Click here for more details!

 

Nature Tales

CFBG’s popular preschool story and craft time, presented in partnership with Cumberland County Public Library, is held on each first Saturday except during events or CFBG holidays.  Each month we explore a different natural science theme:

Sept. 5, 2009          Down Comes the Rain

Oct. 3, 2009            No Nature Tales due to prep for Heritage Day

Nov. 7, 2009           What is Hibernation?

Dec. 5, 2009           Animals in Winter

Nature Tales is FREE but reservations are required and the sessions fill up quickly.  Call the office (910) 486-0221 to reserve a spot for your child at one of two sessions: 10:30 am or 11:30 am.  The story and craft are appropriate for our Little Bloomers (ages two to six) but all ages are welcome.

Adult Workshops

Pre-registration is required for adult workshops.  For your convenience you may register over the phone (with a credit card) by calling (910) 486-0221. Mail-in registration forms are available online.  Programs designed for older children (12+) and adults; both novice and expert gardeners are welcome. 

Nature Photography with Mike Freeman

Saturday, October 10, 10a.m. – 12p.m.

Fee: $35/$30 members

Join us for a nature photography workshop led by Mike Freeman, a Garden member and winner of the recent Fayetteville/Cumberland County Arts Council photography contest.  Mike will share his insider knowledge about photographing flowers and insects in the Garden, including tips on using the proper camera settings, lighting, composition and more!   Come with your camera (point and shoot or SLR) and questions and leave with a better understanding of how to capture the perfect photo.

 

This workshop is designed for beginners, but all levels are invited to practice their skills on the natural inhabitants and gorgeous fall foliage in the Garden!

The Botany and Local History of Cross Creek Cemetery

Saturday, October 10, 1p.m.- 3p.m.

Fee: $15/$10 members

Join’s CFBG’s Dr. Finley Bryan and Bruce Daws of the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum on a stroll through one of Fayetteville’s most historic cemeteries.  Plants have played at important role in burials for endless generations and this workshop will explore interesting plantings and headstone art in the cemetery. Discover colorful characters from Fayetteville’s past, while learning about this important aspect of human history!

Tried and True Regional Plants with Roger Mercer
Saturday, October 17, 1p.m. - 3p.m.
Fee:  $35/$30 members


Enjoy a tour of Cape Fear Botanical Garden with Fayetteville's most renowned gardening guru, Roger Mercer! Roger will lead us in a lively walk highlighting the finest botanical gems of the Garden and will share secrets to successful plant selection for this region. Many plants highlighted on the tour will be available at the Fall Plant Sale on October 24th. 

Making a Garden Holiday Gift Wreath
Saturday, November 14, 10a.m. - 12p.m.

Fee: $40/$35 for members. Fee includes all materials. 

Nothing can relieve the holiday stress like engaging your creativity in nature. Join Carol Fleitz, Director of Horticulture, for this unique Garden workshop—where you can relax and check things off of your to-do list at the same time! Take a break from the holiday madness to make a gorgeous holiday wreath out of garden greens, then give your creation as a hostess gift, or use it to deck the halls in your own home. Price includes materials to create up to two wreaths. 

Botanically Inspired Beer Brewing with Huske Hardware's Julie Baggett
Saturday, November 14, 2009 (meet at the Garden Pavilion)

Fee: $ 45/$40 for members

 
Beginners to experienced home brewers will enjoy this live demonstration of a complete partial-mash brew by Fayetteville’s most recently arrived brewing talent, Julie Baggett. Bring all your brewing questions, and then relax at Huske for beer samplers at no additional cost. Participants will also receive an insider's tour of the Huske brewing facility. Brewmaster Julie Baggett, who has professionally brewed for 16 years, started out as a home brewer and still delights in encouraging and supporting others in this very personally satisfying hobby. (21+ only).

Holiday Herbal Gift Making with Theresa Lim (Herbal Body Care II)

If you loved the first herbal body care class Theresa gave this year, you won't want to miss this one! Theresa Lim of Honey Thyme Herb Farm Herb Farm will show you how to make an herb-infused healing salve and nurturing lip balm. These are great for your own use, but also make thoughtful, much-appreciated gifts for friends and family.

Yoga in the Garden

Wednesdays at 7:30AM - Led by teachers from Om Yoga Studio

$10 per session

What better way to begin your day than with a gentle, one-hour yoga session in the natural beauty of Cape Fear Botanical Garden? 

Led by teachers from Om Yoga Studio, yoga practice will be held each Wednesday at 7:30 am, and is ideal for beginners!

Please bring a mat, a towel, and a blanket or pillow. $10 per session. Register by calling the Garden at (910) 486-0221.
