Education Partners

Cape Fear Botanical Garden strives to serve this region as a center for conservation, education, research and the encouragement of environmental stewardship. Education is one of the Garden’s highest priorities.

Fayetteville Technical Community College

A highlight of the Garden’s educational outreach is a partnership with the students and staff of the Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) Horticulture Technology/Management curriculum. This strong partnership benefits both the students of the HEC and the visitors and students of Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The Garden’s Therapeutic Horticulture program is generously supported through donations of planting supplies, greenhouse space and learning opportunities in the FTCC lab and classroom. As an outdoor laboratory, the Garden provides practical applications of horticultural principles and practices, complementing the student’s curriculum. Additionally, students can work in the Garden perfecting job skills with hands-on activities including landscape and construction techniques, irrigation design and installation, and plant identification.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension Cumberland County Center

Extension Master Gardeners volunteer thousands of hours each year of their time, energy, knowledge and passion for the Garden and gardening! A Master Gardener team leader is available each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning to lead community volunteers in planting, caring for and maintaining garden beds and trails. Master Gardeners maintain a strong connection to the Heritage Garden and provide annual support through a generous grant to help maintain the history and traditions of the buildings and garden beds. Sharing their knowledge and love of teaching, many Master Gardeners volunteer with the Education Department providing tours and other educational opportunities to adults and thousands of school children who visit the Garden each year.
