All aboard the Garden Railway! Visitors of all ages will be wowed from May 25th to August 31st, with a miniature model railway system set up throughout the Friendship Garden. The track includes approximately 450 feet of curves, bridges, plants and of course, trains! You and your family will enjoy watching the trains ride through the Friendship Garden and over the pond to where your imagination takes you! To complement the exhibit, a table top train will be displayed in the Entry Pavilion. Garden Railway merchandise will be available in the Garden Gift Shop and on select weekends, visitors can operate and ride hand cars. Learn about how the start of railways changed the American life with expanded trade, transport of staple crops, urbanization, improved standard of living and increased travel opportunities. The exhibit will change and evolve throughout the summer as our conductor switches out trains and adds new elements to the exhibit. Special programs and classes will also be scheduled throughout the summer that coincide with the exhibit. Stop in during normal business hours to experience the Garden Railway. The exhibit is included in Garden membership or regular admission.
Building the exhibit is a complex undertaking spearheaded by Alex and his wife Karen, a local couple who are model train enthusiasts. Alex and Karen have donated their time and their trains to create a whole new experience at the Garden. Thank you Alex and Karen for your hard work and dedication to the Garden’s mission: transforming peoples relationship with plants and the natural world.
