Description: Immerse yourself in the world of nature photography and environmental storytelling through a day workshop set in the great outdoors. This class is designed for those with a basic understanding of digital camera operation, a passion for nature photography, and a thirst to enhance their photographic skills and unleash the full potential of their camera. The program includes field sessions at Cape Fear Botanical Garden, instructive slide programs, and critiques of selected participant images.

Topics discussed include:

A. Choosing the proper camera settings and operation

B. ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture relation

C. PSAM

D. Composition, creativity, and perspective by lens

E. Use of natural light to enhance images

Artist Bio: Ray Im is a Korean-born, American, lens-based artist and ceramicist. Im employs the German Deadpan style in his photography, which delivers his images with a cool and detached characteristic. This method enables him to analyze his subjects objectively, and it also applies to his interdisciplinary installation sculptures. Im received his BFA in Photography from Baylor University and MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He exhibits his work in various locations, including Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, South Korea, and Italy. He recently finished his Artist-in-Residency at Anderson Ranch Art Center, CO, and will start the 2025 Spring Artist-in-Residency at Starworks, NC. Im’s work includes commercial photography commissions for magazines in multiple US states and the UK. He is currently teaching art classes at Fayetteville State University.

Audience Target: This event is ideal for anyone with a love for nature photography. Whether you’re an amateur, enthusiast, or advanced-level photographer, you’re all invited to be a part of this workshop. No prior photography experience is necessary to join the class. All you need is an Interchangeable Lens System Camera (DSLR or Mirrorless Camera) to register for the class.
