After School: Insect Sounds

April 8 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Ages: 5-10 Did you know crickets sing with their wings? Katydids, meanwhile, use their legs. In this class we’ll learn all about insects and the strange, wonderful noises they make. We’ll review what makes certain animals insects, search for insects in the Garden, and make a buzzing bee craft. Fee: Included with Garden membership or admission. Registration Link

Spring Scavenger Hunt

Come visit the Garden this weekend for a fun spring scavenger hunt. Use clues to find spring themed stamps hidden throughout the Garden. Scavenger hunt sheets are available in the Gift Shop all weekend and completed scavenger hunts can be redeemed for a small prize. Part of the Family Program Series. Kids’ Night Out At the Garden: Nocturnal Insects

April 10 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Ages  8-12 Parents have a night off, while kids have kids have a fun filled night at the Garden. This month’s theme is Nocturnal Insects like moths, beetles, and fire flies. In addition to looking for real insects on a Garden night hike, we’ll create light up fire flies and decorate insect collection jars. As always, we’ll end the class with s’mores toasted over the campfire. Fee: $20 or $10 with Garden membership. Registration Link

Preschool: Excellent Eggs

April 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Choose a session 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.  Come read An Egg is Quiet and learn about real animal eggs including soft squishy frog eggs, giant ostrich eggs, and leathery lizard eggs. Nature Play Day: Fantastic Frogs – Saturday, April 18th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Nature Play Days are the Garden’s monthly opportunity for preschoolers to learn and play at their own pace. This month’s theme is Fantastic Frogs. We’ll have a frog jump, a lily pad bean bag toss, a pond sensory bin, a sprinkler, a touch table, and more! Fee: Included with Garden membership or admission.

Therapeutic Horticulture with HomeInstead for Senior Vets: Back in the Garden

Home Instead Senior Care Foundation is sponsoring free Therapeutic Horticulture classes for senior veterans (55+) and a companion at Cape Fear Botanical Garden in March and April. Classes will teach gardening skills and concepts with the goal of improving wellness through increased mobility, socialization and independence. Gardenmania
