The Great Backyard Bird Count is a global event that gets people excited about birding in the winter by creating a winter snapshot of birds. Cape Fear Botanical Garden will be providing opportunities for the whole family to be a part of this annual initiative.
Join expert birder Hal Broadfoot at the Great Backyard Bird Count hosted at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. This celebration of birds will include two birding hikes and a day of family-friendly activities that will deepen your appreciation for our feathered friends. Engage in hands-on experiences including crafting bird track models from clay and playing a game that teaches you to identify birds by their distinctive calls. Explore the wonders of flight with a touch table including an array of feathers and nests. The 9am birding hike is open to all ages and the 10am birding hike will focus specifically on families with young children. The Great Backyard Bird Count contributes to national scientific efforts and participants have the opportunity to learn about and actively participating in the collection of vital bird data. Both adult and children’s binoculars will be available to borrow.
Schedule:
9am – 10am Join expert birder Hal Broadfoot on a guided birding walk in the Garden.
10am -10:45 am Learn about birds with a guided bird walk and scavenger hunt designed specifically for families with children.
10:45 am – 12pm Celebrate birds with family friendly activities including making bird tracks, a touch table, bird call game, a more!
