Heritage Garden Guide Volunteer Training

September 7 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Do you have a passion for Living History and Storytelling? Cape Fear Botanical Garden is seeking enthusiastic individuals who can bring the rich history of the 1800s to life for our visitors within the McCauley Heritage Garden – home to authentic building from early North Carolina history, a veggie garden, and more.
If you have a desire to help our visitors have an interactive experience, we invite you to join our team as a Heritage Garden Guide Volunteer. This Training Session will set you up for success and answer your questions about participation.

** Training Session for Interested Parties: Saturday, September 7 at 11am-12:30pm in CFBG Board Room **
If you are planning to attend or have other questions about this program, email volunteers@capefearbg.org

What to Expect when you Volunteer:
* Hands-On Training: As part of our Volunteer Training Program, you’ll receive comprehensive guidance on how to deliver historically accurate and theatrical conversations that captivate our guests. Learn the art of storytelling that makes the past resonate in the present.
* Living History Experience: Volunteers will be trained to embody the lives of those who lived in the 1800s, complete with period-appropriate costumes and interactive demonstrations. You’ll help create an immersive experience that transports visitors back in time.
* Family-Friendly Participation: We encourage families to get involved! Children can showcase traditional games from the 1800s, such as Hoop and Stick or Hoop Rolling. These activities not only entertain but also educate our younger visitors about life in a bygone era.
Volunteer Roles may Include:
* Tour Guides: Lead tours and engage visitors with stories of the past, making history come alive within our Heritage Garden.
* Building Docents: Stationed in one of our historical buildings, your primary role will be to oversee the living history aspects within your assigned building during Garden Experience events.
* Special Event Volunteers: Assist during Garden Experience events, helping to maintain the historical ambiance while supporting the overall event flow.
What Else to Know:
* Volunteers are needed during weekends and evening events
* Those who complete Garden Guide Training will receive information on volunteer opportunities as available and can participate as often or as little as they desire.
